Shakti FIRST to bring STEM education to rural Bangladesh

Shakti Foundation, US Embassy Dhaka, and Brighters are the first to launch The GLOBE Program in Bangladesh! Under this program, students from Classes 6–10 (ages 12–16) at Nazrul Islam High School in Lalpur Union of Titash Upazila, Cumilla, will gain hands-on training in science, technology, environment, and mathematics using simple, scientific devices. Trained teachers at the school will implement inquiry-based activities that instil critical thinking, scientific research methodologies, data analysis, and independent learning in students. With improved learning and greater awareness, we aim to create a future generation of informed citizens and responsible decision-makers.

The inaugural ceremony of the GLOBE Program took place at Nazrul Islam High School, Comilla, on February 5, 2024. Ms. Amy Cass, Economic Officer, US Embassy Dhaka, presided over the event as chief guest. Representatives from Shakti Foundation and Brighters Society, as well as teachers and students from Nazrul Islam High School, were present on the occasion.

The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program started in 1995. Currently, it involves more than 120 countries, over 37,000 schools, and over 100 million students, teachers, and scientists worldwide. This program is conducted in partnership with NASA, NOAA, and the US State Department. For more information, please visit:
