Women Empowerment (WE) Program

Coding for Girls

In a joint initiative with Oculin Tech BD, one of Bangladesh’s leading IT companies, the “Coding for Girls” Project aims to provide young girls with free computer literacy training. The three-month long pilot program is currently underway in two schools namely, Lalpur Nazrul Islam High School in Titas Upazila in Cumilla and Srinivasdi Government Primary School in Araihazar Upazila in Narayangonj. Female students of Classes 10 to 12 are being trained in batches of 20 on basic computer operation, graphic designing, web development, and programing language (coding).

Women in the Workplace

In alignment with Shakti’s woman-centric values, the WE Program has worked relentlessly to ensure a safe, gender-equal and healthy work environment for all its employees in the field and the office. Alongside implementing organization wide gender-responsive policies and best practices, focus group discussions and counselling have been undertaken at the branch level. The purpose of these discussions is to propagate the narrative on workplace obstacles and explore appropriate solutions.

Legal Aid Support

Shakti works closely with legal aid agencies to support its members in matters of domestic violence, child marriage, polygamy and sexual abuse. In addition, the organization is heavily invested in raising awareness to prevent violence against women.

Over the years, our network has grown considerably with our members successfully improving their socio-economic position through merit, perseverance and Shakti’s support. Shakti wants to extend the same support to bright young minds who through their own hard work and resilience can transform their own lives. Unfortunately as poverty rears its ugly head, many students have to leave their studies behind which further perpetuates the poverty cycle.

To prevent this, Shakti awards scholarships to the children of its members who secure a GPA of 5 or above in board exams (SSC) so that they can continue their higher education. The fund for these grants comes from two sources- Shakti’s Members’ Welfare Fund and a fund established by PKSF. By combining these two sources, financial assistance is provided to high-achieving students.
